Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (EWP) Course


The MEWP Code of Practice requires that Employers must ensure employees are either sufficiently experienced to do their work safely or are supervised by an experienced person.  In addition, employees must be adequately trained in the safe use of equipment in the place of work; including protective clothing and equipment.

Please note that the elevating work platforms also referred to as EWP, MEWP, mobile work platform, elevating work platform and officially as a Mobile Elevating Work Platform.

People who complete the EWP unit standards below will be able to demonstrate knowledge of types of EWP's, their suitability for purpose and their safety features.

Additional training is available through the optional electives which include truck mounted, trailer mounted and vertical lift.  These unit standards are offered as onsite training only.

  • It is expected that attendees have experience in using a MEWP in their current role or have previous experience. Proof may be required.
  • 23966 is the pre-requisite requirement to all of the practical mobile elevating work platform options.  This is completed with the standard course delivery, as shown in Table 1. 
  • Be 16 years of age or over
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level 5.0 (General Training). Proof of this will be required.

One day. This includes the theory unit standard and two practical units as shown in the Scheduled Course table.

Attendance Capacity

Strict Maximum 8 trainees for the standard delivery option in the scheduled course (please refer to table one). Please note that 3 machines can be assessed on the one day programme with an onsite booking.  This option has a strict maximum of 6 trainees per course.


Course Fees

$496.00 + GST per person

Course costs include all learning materials and completion certificate. Costs also include registration of unit standard credits with NZQA.
