Chemical Handling & Spill Management Training


This course is aimed at the user of chemicals in the workplace and is designed to provide them with the appropriate knowledge and understanding to work safely with workplace chemicals and deal with spills and emissions.

  • Chemical Handlers, Purchasers, Transporters and Receivers of Hazardous Substances
  • Storage, Management and Health and Safety Personnel

Course Objectives

  • Identify legislative responsibilities required for the control and containment of emissions and spills
  • Record, report and follow up emissions and spills
  • Store and handle workplace chemicals
  • Workplace chemicals and their characteristics
  • Hazards of handling workplace chemicals
  • Procedures for the disposal of workplace chemicals
  • Documentation of workplace chemical use and storage
  • Methods of dealing with workplace chemical spills and the equipment to be used


  • Be 16 years of age or over
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level 5.0 (General Training). Proof of this will be required.

Minimum of 8 trainees and a Maximum of 12 trainees per course.


Course Fees

$403.00 + GST per person

Course costs include all learning materials and completion certificate. Costs also include registration of unit standard credits with NZQA.
