Non-Slewing Crane Course

After an industry review with, unit standards 16617, 3789 and 3800 will require unit 30072 as a pre-requisite.

Overview: 24511 Configure a non-slewing articulated crane, and lift and place regular loads

All persons operating or working with a non-slewing crane. Non-slewing articulated cranes are mobile cranes designed for low speed pick and carry operations. Unlike conventional mobile cranes, non-slewing articulated cranes have a pivoting joint in their construction which allows the vehicle to turn sharply.

Course Content

Operating an articulated pick and carry crane is a specialised skill.

By completing this Non-Slewing Crane Operator course, and based on the trainee's practical experience, at the end of this programme trainees will be able to apply theory and skills in lifting and placing regular loads with a non-slewing crane and analyse and evaluate processes, through practical experience. This course is based on coaching and assessment only and is designed for trainees with experience in Non-Slewing crane operation.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Identify hazards
  • Mobilise, position and configure a non-slewing articulated crane
  • Lift and place irregular and regular loads
  • Travel the crane with a load on the hook
  • Complete required documentation to travel a crane with a load on the hook
  • Prepare a non-slewing articulated crane and complete documentation for crane travel
  • Complete daily and weekly operator maintenance of a non-slewing articulated crane

  • Unit Standard 3789 Sling regular loads and communicate during crane operations - proof will be required for registration
  • Unit Standard 3787 Demonstrate knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to cranes - proof will be required for registration

Additional Pre-requisites

  • Be 16 years of age or over
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level 5.0 (General Training). Proof of this will be required.
