Changes to Crane Training

All unit standards go through a regular revision cycle to ensure that they meet the needs and requirements of industry. Recently Skills.org completed the revision for the unit standards that reflect crane training.

What has changed?

In most cases the only change is an update to keep up with industry needs, and better reflect the requirement of crane operators. AMS have identified the biggest area of change is within the pre-requisites and creation of a new unit standard 30072, Demonstrate and apply knowledge of slinging regular loads safely. Unit 30072 will now act as a pre-requisite for the following unit standards:

Unit Standard Title Credit Value

3789

Sling varied regular loads and safely direct a crane during crane operations

15

16617

Use a truck loader crane to lift and place regular loads

15

30442

Demonstrate knowledge of lifting, moving, and placing loads using mobile plant

5

3800 Use a radio remote or pendant controlled gantry crane to lift and place regular loads 10

As unit 3789 also acts as a pre-requisite for many of the crane units this does mean an addition to the current training process.

How long do I have until the new units will be adopted?

Skills.org have set a transition period for the new units to be adopted by the end of 2018.

To ensure enough time for learners to practice the skills and gain experience before entry into unit 3789, we are able to run courses for 30072 now. Please contact AMS group to discuss your needs.

How will AMS support us to complete this training?

All persons operating or working with a crane must hold the applicable Unit Standards as a minimum qualification and preferably hold the relevant New Zealand Certificate in Crane Operation.

AMS group will continue to provide quality training services. We have adopted the new unit 30072 and look forward to transitioning into the updated versions of the crane units. AMS group is proud to offer both on-site courses within your workplace or public training at one of our training venues.  Contact us to find out more about our options available for these courses or enquire below.
