AMS Group Launches Scaffold National Cert with a New Delivery Model

AMS Group has been collaborating with a working group from the NZ Scaffold Industry to develop a new scaffolding National Certificate training programme designed to suit the schedules of employers and will be available from November, 2014.

AMS Group Managing Director Kevin Wall says "This National Certificate programme required a new delivery model and a new way of thinking about a traditional industry based qualification and AMS Group has the flexibility and expertise to provide this solution to the Industry."

The National Certificate in Scaffolding (Elementary) (Level 3) has been re-developed to offer an alternative delivery model to traditional block courses. This new model means that students spend time less time away from the job at any one time.  This model has been specifically designed based on feedback from within the industry.

Wall says "Tailored qualification programmes like this offer employers an opportunity to increase staff retention through training while reducing the impact that the time away from the business has on contracts and projects."

The potential cost savings with this type of course structure can be significant. The course is flexible and can work with organisations to reduce the overall cost of training.  Minimising the days that staff are off-site, with innovative approaches to block course requirements, training and assessment, reduces the impact that longer block courses will have on businesses.

This new delivery model will encourage a blended approach to course learning and can include an online learning component. The block courses are held over 2 days, every four months throughout the 16 months of the course, to minimise the impact and cost to business.  This will also increase the “on the job training” components with assessor visits onsite. It will also include a greater level of Company based supervisor training.

AMS Group is also offering two industry based short course options for low-level (non-notifiable) scaffolding and residential scaffolding training for builders and residential construction, both for scaffolding up to five (5) metres in height, which does not require a Certificate of Competence or notification to WorkSafe NZ.
