Four Wheel Drive
AMS can offer a range of 4wd training to improve driver competency and to minimize safety risk. Courses cover both theory and practical components
Theory components may include;
- Vehicle Dynamics. The difference between two and four wheel drive
- Trip preparation: Hazards assessment, Equipment, Securing loads and passengers
- Leaving the road
- Awareness of different Surfaces
- Getting back on the Road
- 4WD Vehicle extraction
- Fitting and removing vehicle chains
- Fuel Efficient driving techniques
The practical component is expected to take eight hours and may include.
- Vehicle preparation for off road driving
- General off road terrain driving including unsealed surfaces, water crossing, undulating ground, low friction surfaces
- Fitting and removal of chains
- 4WD extraction
The following unit standards can be covered as part of the course but the course will be trailored to meet your business requirements.
17976 Demonstrate the knowledge of operating a light 4WD vehicle in an off road environment
17977 Develop a plan for off road light 4wd driving
17978 Operate a light 4wd vehicle in an off road environment
20620 Develop and execute a plan for 4wd vehicle extraction
8638 Drive on snow and ice
18138 Fit and remove vehicle chains
Cost
Standard price is $250 plus gst per person per day. Minimum of 8 people
Registration of NZQA credits on record of learning - $3 plus gst per credit.
Course Duration
One to two days depending on training requirements and experience levels
