Class 4 Truck Licence Courses

Overview - Over 18,000kgs

Do the NZTA approved Class 4 Licence course at AMS Group and cut out the learner licence period of six months.

The Class 4 Licence allows you to drive a vehicle from 18,000kgs or over. This includes trucks that have loads like aggregates, fertiliser and other bulk trucks, concrete mixer trucks, waste, refuse and recycling trucks and much more. Drivers with this class of licence are sort after by many companies and offer plenty of opportunities for a career pathway to heavy vehicle haulage and Class 5 driving.

In our approved course we will include a logbook unit standard (unless you can prove you have sat it with an NZTA approved provider within the last twelve months and we are happy with your current standard), and the Class 4 unit standard 17576 which consists of both theory and practical.

A Class 4 learner licence (4L) must be obtained before the course. There is no theory test for the Class 4 Learners (4L) but you need to meet the criteria.

You also need to:

  • hold a full Class 2 licence for at least six months if under 25, or at least three months if you are 25 or over
  • present a medical certificate (if required) - see notes below

You can apply for your 4L from any NZTA Licensing agent (VTNZ or AA). AMS Group will be take care of the rest.
