Dogman: Sling Loads & Communicate

Overview : Unit Standard 3789: Sling regular loads and communicate during crane operations  

This course is designed for industry operators currently working on sites where cranes are operating and where there is a requirement to communicate with the operators.  These will include building and construction, large scale manufacturing and processing, ports and stevedoring operations or any other environments that requires the use of cranes.

Course Content

By completing this 1 day course, and based on the trainee's practical experience, at the end of this programme, trainees will be able to apply theory and skills in slinging loads and communication to carry out, analyse, and evaluate processes, through practical experience. This course is based on coaching and assessment and is designed for trainees with experience in crane operation.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • calculate loads
  • inspect and evaluate lifting gear
  • identify hazards
  • explain lifting gear range charts
  • prepare and sling regular loads and
  • communicate during crane operations - including the use of hand signals and radios to provide instruction that will minimise risk

Pre-Requisites

  • Evidence of 6 months full time equivalent work based experience in an environment where cranes are operating prior to the course date, proof will be required on enrolment.
  • Be 16 years of age or over
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level 5.0 (General Training). Proof of this will be required.
