Scaffold Pre-inspection

This course has been developed by AMS Group to provide the learner with a scaffolding course that will give trainees broad based training in the skills, techniques and record keeping of scaffold safety inspections before use.

Who should attend

Those completing this programme are likely to be those involved in construction and related industries who commonly use scaffolding and are required to ensure assure safe use of the scaffold. This includes painters, builders, plasterers, gutter spouters, brickies, cladding specialists and residential roofers. It does not It does not remove the requirement for inspections to be completed by a certificated scaffolder where required under statute.

Course Content

Trainees will conduct a visual and physical inspection of scaffolding before use while:

  • Identifying any potential hazards and risks.
  • Visually examining notifiable scaffolding for structural stability.
  • Checking the scaffolding register for currency.
  • Testing notifiable scaffolding for structural stability.

They will also respond appropriately to the findings of the scaffold inspection:

  • Ensuring the scaffold and scaffold site is maintained.
  • Appropriately recording and reporting findings.

A practical group based activity in the afternoon linked to Task 2 of NZQA unit 23230.

Pre-requisites

  • Trainees must be 16 years of age or over
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level 5.0 (General Training). Proof of this will be required.

Note: Those intending to enrol in this programme should note that work in the scaffolding industry often takes place at height, and therefore requires a relevant level of physical fitness and ability to work at heights.

Special note

This unit standard is intended for use with standing and hanging scaffolding built with tube and fitting or proprietary systems. It specifically excludes suspended scaffolding.
