Overview: Online HSR Course

There are 3 modules that you can self-pace through that cover the HSR role, advocating as an HSR, and the Process of being an HSR. The modules cover preparing you for being assessment ready to complete Unit 29315 Describe the role and functions of the Health and Safety Representative in a New Zealand workplace. The time you take to move through these modules is determined by your level of knowledge you already hold. Once you have completed the 3 modules you can attempt the 29315 NZQA assessment online.

Course Content

This is an introduction to the Health & Safety Representative role. This course will enable you to understand the requirements and obligations of a Health & Safety Representative in relation to the HSWA. It covers:

  • Explaining the role and functions of the Health & Safety Representative under the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015 and its Regulations
  • Understanding the HSR role when working with the PCBU & WorkSafe
  • An in-depth understanding of the Roles and Responsibilities under the HSWA
  • The HSR role of advocating
  • Managing risk and the importance of communicating with workers and management
  • The responsibility that a Health & Safety Representative has for issuing a provisional improvement notice (PIN)
  • Understanding how and when to direct a worker to cease unsafe work.

For entry into all AMS Group courses, trainees must be 16 years of age or over. Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level 5.0. Proof of this will be required.

Course costs include all learning materials and completion certificate. Costs also include registration of unit standard credits with NZQA. 

Special Note

This online course is designed for someone who has experience as a HSR. Part of the assessment involves completing a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN). Assessment of this online course is advised 5 business days after the completion of the online modules.
